Job seekers

How long will it take me to get a job?

This depends on a few things and it’s something that will vary from person to person. It can be influenced by how committed you are to finding a job, your skills, employment goals, time frames and also what's happening in the labour market. Our team will do our best to help you find and secure a job, and we're dedicated to supporting you through each step of your journey.

Will I receive any transport support so I can get to work?

Our job development officers provide a travel training service which is designed to get you familiar, and comfortable, with your transport options to and from work each day.

Can you make workplace modifications?

If you find it difficult to do your job, we may be able to get approval to buy you equipment or special tools.  We can also try and get your work place changed to help you to do your job.

We’ll will assess your work place and your job to see what kind of equipment or special tools you may need, or any changes you may need to your work place.

What is a supported wage?

The Support Wage System is set up for employees with disability who are not able to perform jobs at the same capacity as any other employee. Under this system, special workplace arrangements are created so that employers can pay wages to a person with disability based on how productive they are in their job.

If we make an application for a Support Wage for you, we’ll need to get a qualified assessor in to your workplace. They will look at your job description, your time spent on each task, the hours and days worked as well as break times and the level of supervision you need. They will also make sure that any modifications you need to do your job are in place.

Every year an independent assessor will work with you to see if your productivity rate has changed.

What is a wage subsidy?

Mylestones Employment may also agree to pay your employer a wage subsidy.  The Wage Subsidy Scheme offers a subsidy to employers who employ a job seeker with disability, who is registered with a Disability Employment Service Provider.

The job must be for eight hours or more per week for at least 13 weeks and have an expectation of continuing for more than 13 weeks (or six weeks in a seasonal industry).

Employers

How do I know if the person is suitable or qualified for the job?

Our job seekers have a range of skills, qualifications and training in the workforce. Some have university level qualifications and a strong work history, while others are waiting to find their first job. We match the skills of our job seekers to the skills needed for the role in your organisation, and we do everything that we can to make sure there's a good fit every time. We also offer specialist assessment services that help us identify a job seekers work capacity.

What happens if the placement isn't successful?

If the work placement isn’t going as planned, our team will work closely with you to develop support strategies to help get everything back on track. We can identify issues and implement recommendations that will work towards positive outcomes for both you and your employee.

Is there any financial impact on my business?

Our service is funded by the Department of Social Services so it is cost-free for all employers and job seekers. As an employer, you can access different types of financial assistance from the Australian Government, which include wage subsides, schemes and financial assistance for workplace modifications and aids.

What types of things will I need to do to get my workplace ready for a new employee?

In some cases you may need to make modifications to your workplace or provide specialised equipment when employing someone with disability. These can be small things like installing sound reducing devices, making sure you can provide work areas with temperature control or removing loose mats and obvious obstacles around your workplace.
