Legal Requirements

IMPORTANT: Queensland disability legislation says disability service providers need to check that all prospective students, volunteers and staff will provide safe and quality support to service users. The Queensland Family and Child Commission also has rules regarding the employment of staff who work with children. This means that anyone participating in a Student Work Placement must undergo criminal history screening every three years.

Mylestones Training recommends that all students apply for both a Blue Card and a Yellow Card so you can work across services for both adults and children. Here is a link to the application form. There is no charge if you are a student and we can help you complete this for your Student Work Placement.

What exactly is the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program?
The Certificate 3 Guarantee is a key initiative under the Queensland Government’s five year reform action plan for the education and training sector. The program gives students an opportunity to complete a Certificate III qualification to help them find a job or further their career in industries that are experiencing skills shortages.

Will I have to pay anything more than the $149 Student Contribution Fee at Mylestones Training?
Not at all. Under the Certificate 3 Guarantee, the Queensland Government will subsidise your training cost for the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support at Mylestones Training. This means all you have to pay is the low Student Contribution Fee of just $149.

What is a Student Contribution Fee and what does it cover?
A Student Contribution Fee is a small amount of money that students contribute to their course, so they share some of the responsibility for improving their skills. Your Student Contribution Fee helps pay for the cost of the training resources you will receive; like books and hand outs

If I already have a Certificate 3 qualification, can I access this program?
Unfortunately not. Under the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program guidelines, to be eligible, you must not hold or currently be undertaking a certificate III level or higher qualification.

Can I do more than one Certificate 3 qualification through this program?
No. Under the guidelines, students can only access one subsidised training place for a Certificate III level qualification. The completion of a Certificate III qualification under the Certificate 3 Guarantee program means you may be ineligible for future government funding for a Certificate III or IV qualification.

How do I know if I qualify for a concession?
Under the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program you can go through the program on a concession (this means your Student Contribution Fee is at a reduced rate) if you:

  • Hold a health care concession card or pensioner concession card issued under Commonwealth Law that is current for the length of the program
  • You are the partner or a dependant of a person who holds a Health Care concession card or Pensioner concession card, and is named on the card
  • You have an official form under Commonwealth law confirming that the participant, his or her partner or the person of whom the person is a dependant, is entitled to concessions under a health care concession card or pensioner concession card; or
  • You are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person
