The Disability Sector

The disability sector is currently undergoing a dramatic transformation. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is creating lots of career opportunities for people from a range of backgrounds.

With the NDIS set to be fully implemented in Queensland by 2019, people withNDIS ready! disabilities will have much greater choice and control over their support options.

More people will receive the support they need to get up in the morning, go out in the community, find work and do the activities they love.

The disability sector is light years apart from your average nine to five desk job. Besides being rewarding and challenging, the work hours are flexible and you can choose to work in your local area when it suits you!

Did you know the Queensland Government has committed to $868 million in additional funding for disability services over six years!

CPL's Dillon Carlsson

"I’m never going to be a builder because I can’t chop two pieces of wood. The disability sector is for me and I love every day. My role is much more administrative and more about staff development and support but I still get to have a chat to all the clients about what’s coming up that day."

Tamika's story

Certificate III in Disability graduate, Tamika Rowland-Lewis, said Mylestones Training helped to upgrade her skills, providing the qualification she needed to move forward in her workplace.

"I already worked in disability with CPL and wanted to become more qualified before the NDIS comes to Queensland in a few years.

The Certificate III in Disability helped me to secure a promotion to a support worker with CPL's Hervey Bay centre, which wouldn't have been possible otherwise.
Support Worker

"My new role allows me to work with clients to get them back into the community; I take them out to the shops, to the movies, or help them see their friends - whatever it takes to make them feel like included members of the community.

“I feel like my work is sometimes out of the box which I really enjoy, no two days are ever the same and I’m not stuck behind a desk.

“I like to think I’m making a difference to my clients. Every day I feel rewarded through my work and I would encourage others to look into a career in the disability sector.”
