As we are all aware, the coronavirus situation continues to intensify with all Australians being asked to abide by new rules designed to keep us safe.

Throughout this evolving situation, CPL has taken its lead from the Australian Government, implementing a range of measures designed to keep our clients safe, while delivering on our promise to continue the services and supports on which our clients rely.

At the end of the day though, nothing is more important to us than the safety of our clients and our people. So, with directives regarding non-essential gatherings and social distancing intensifying, and listening to the feedback from our clients and families, we have made the difficult decision today to modify and suspend some of our services.

From 5pm on Friday 27 March, we will be modifying the typical delivery of all group programs delivered in CPL centres. This includes recreational, social, skill development and arts programs delivered by CPL and Access Arts.

Local managers will work with impacted clients to develop alternatives, which may include support within people’s homes or smaller-group, community-based shared supports.

A small number of CPL clients are driven to and from community-based activities by a CPL support worker. From 5pm on Friday 27 March, CPL will be unable to transport any client in any vehicle.

If you receive aged care or Queensland Community Support Scheme supports, someone will be in touch to discuss your needs.

In line with the closure of libraries and changes to education, our Toy and Resource Library service will be suspended.

Vacation care services planned to be delivered in a number of schools on the Gold Coast have also been cancelled.

I understand the changes outlined here will be difficult for some of our clients and their families. Please be assured that, wherever possible, CPL will work with you to find an alternative. We remain focused on ensuring our clients are able to continue to access the supports they need.

Many of our clients have already had conversations with their local manager to explore alternative options where available. If you haven’t done this yet, I encourage you to reach out to your local contact.

Of course, if you choose not to seek alternative supports or what you are seeking is not available, we will keep in touch with you and let you know when we are able to recommence your services.

Thank you for allowing us to continue to work with you, and your ongoing trust in these uncertain times.

Kind regards

Rhys Kennedy
