As many of you know, when restrictions were introduced during March and April, CPL implemented measures which changed our service delivery to ensure social distancing. Since my last update, there have been a number of announcements from the Federal and Queensland governments about easing restrictions over the coming months.

With every state in Australia now enacting plans to resume community life, CPL has also been developing its plan to carefully resume some of our services when it is safe to do so.

Below is an update on some of the proposed changes, as well as some information about what measures remain in place.

Over the coming weeks, CPL will begin a gradual return to delivering Support in the Community services in our CPL centres.  From 25 May, centres will reopen and deliver programs whilst maintaining social distancing. This is part of CPL’s careful approach to returning to normal service delivery, with extensive cleaning and santisation measures in place to protect the health and safety of our employees and clients. If you’d like to know more about the reopening of Support in the Community, please speak to your supervisor.

CPL has been planning how we manage our physical workplaces as people who have been working from home begin to return to CPL locations.   If you have been away from a CPL site, you may notice some changes on your return – such as health and information posters, directional signage, and changes in the use of shared items, particularly in kitchens and utility areas.

Changes will vary somewhat from site to site, but it is important that we all play our part in ensuring our sites are safe and hygienic for our clients and colleagues.  I thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

In response to the novel coronavirus outbreak, CPL introduced restrictions on a range of activities including access to sites, transport and travel and training.

The CPL Working Group has reviewed each of these decisions in light of the Queensland Government’s Roadmap to Recovery (link) and made a number of decisions for those in Queensland. There will be some variance for those in New South Wales, pending further detail from the NSW Government.

  • Group DSW interviews and face-to-face interviews for other approved roles will recommence on 15 May

  • Air travel within Queensland may recommence from 15 May for essential trips with pre-approval from an Executive

  • Air travel interstate remains restricted and will be reassessed in line with Government directives

  • Visits to client sites by non-client facing employees remains restricted

  • Visits to corporate offices by client-facing employees remains restricted

  • Transporting of clients in any vehicles remains restricted until further notice

  • Events remain restricted by CPL until 10 July, when larger gatherings are permitted by the Queensland Government.

If you are planning an activity and are unclear about how these restrictions apply, please contact your Manager to discuss.

Please also note that social distancing requirements remain in place, so remember to observe four square metres per person, with a 1.5m space between individuals in all settings.

Life has been a bit different lately and that affects us all in different ways.  Where one person will love the changes, another will struggle. If you or someone in your family is having any difficulties coping, think about taking advantage of CPL’s free Employee Assistance Program. To access support, call 1300 361 008.

We have received so many photos and submissions showing us what you’ve been doing during isolation.

Our Gold Coast client James has been keeping busy cooking and playing Skip-Bo at home. Here’s some photos of his latest cooking adventure. He’s asked us to pass on this message to all CPL employees:

“Thank you to all the carers for keeping me busy. Stay safe out there everyone.”

Please keep sending in your photos, recipes or messages to internalcomms@cpl.org.au. We’d love to see any videos of how you’re keeping in touch or spending your time.

Last month, we asked our corporate partners to help us keep our clients connected during this period of self-isolation. Many of our wonderful supporters have donated towards the purchase of iPads for our SIL locations including:

  • Remserv
  • Computer Alliance
  • Telstra
  • Assure Digital
  • Reward Gateway

A big thank you to these organisations - and to all of you!

Take care and stay safe.
