Information for Mylestones Training students

If you are not currently working in the sector, you will need to complete 120 hours of unpaid Student Work Placement while you are studying.

This is a requirement before your qualification can be issued and is essential to ensure that you can put what you learn in class into a real work setting with real life people. This placement needs to be with a Queensland Disability Service provider.

Find a local disability service provider here.

Here are examples of what can be covered during a Student Work Placement:

  • Showing awareness of the legal framework and applying it in the support worker role
  • Gaining knowledge of clients’ personal care plans and help put them into action
  • Communicating with clients using communication tools/devices/technology
  • Dealing with challenging behaviour and difficult conversations
  • Storing client information in a confidential manner
  • Writing reports and documentation in client files and report logs
  • Communicating with other team members (written and verbal), as well as attending team meetings
  • Submitting hazard reports
  • Completing manual tasks
  • Following safety procedures, hygiene and PPE, and emergency evacuation procedures
Have a placement lined up already?
Fantastic! Please let Student Services know by emailing so the formal sign up can be arranged.

Need help to find a placement?
As part of CPL, Mylestones Training can refer you to the established Student Work Placement program coordinated via CPL's Volunteer Services. If you're interested in doing your placement through CPL, you can start the application process here.

If you need help to find a suitable placement, please contact Student Services at or 07 3240 4080 and we'd be more than happy to assist.

IMPORTANT: Queensland disability legislation says disability service providers need to check that all prospective students, volunteers and staff will provide safe and quality support to service users. The Queensland Family and Child Commission also has rules regarding the employment of staff who work with children.

This means that anyone participating in a Student Work Placement must undergo criminal history screening every three years.

Mylestones Training recommends that all students apply for both a Blue Card and a Yellow Card so you can work across services for both adults and children.

Here is a link to the application form. There is no charge if you are a student and we can help you complete this for your Student Work Placement.

Payment of Fees

Options include:
1. Pay upfront:  This is usually a requirement for all government subsided courses and means that payment is made during the enrolment process.

2. Payment plan with payments made across the length of your program: Payment is discussed and the terms are made clear during the enrolment process. We are happy to negotiate a suitable individual plan so you can pay by instalment. This works well for those students who are ineligible for subsidised training but are keen to gain their qualification. Payment can be made by credit card or by direct debit. Please note, each unit must be paid for in full prior to starting.

Withdrawal from study

If you are having difficulty meeting your study goals, please talk your trainer for advice and support, or email We're committed to helping you stay on track and gain your qualification.

If you want to withdraw from your course, you need to advise us in writing or email. Please note that financial penalties will apply if you withdraw from the course after commencement.

Refund of Fees

Students must advise of cancellation in writing or by email. All monies, less a 20% administration fee, will be refunded if cancellation occurs before any training or assessment takes place.

Withdrawal after training or assessment begins will attract a 20% administration fee and the deduction of the full cost of any training or assessment the learner had access to up until withdrawal date.

Where a training program is cancelled by Mylestones Training, and alternative training programs do not suit, a full refund of fees will be made within fourteen (14) days of receipt of application for refund.
Mylestones Training will provide a full or partial refund of fees in exceptional circumstances or through illness or injury preventing the student from completing the unit/module within fourteen (14) days of receipt of application for refund.

In exceptional cases of financial hardship or other extenuating circumstances, the student may make an application for full or partial refund and forward this in writing to the RTO Manager.

The RTO Manager will then determine whether the application is approved and if so, the full or part amount of refund is processed. Applications for Refunds are to be on the Application for Refund Form.

What hardware and software do students need to use the online system?
The only hardware requirement is a computer connected to the Internet. All Internet browsers and devices (including tablets) can be used to access the online system. Some activities require the student to upload a file in response to a question. These files can be created in any application like Word, Excel, or other similar tools.

Do I need a broadband connection?
The short answer is ‘No’. We have optimised all images and animations in the system so that their file size is minimised, and the system is functional with a dial-up internet connection. That being said, as is the case with all browsing of the internet, the faster your connection the better.

Can I print out the training modules?
No, you cannot print the resource content. The resources are presented in an interactive animated format designed for online viewing only. There are some resources provided in PDF format for you to print and keep and you may print the assessment activities in order to submit them if necessary.

How long do you maintain a student’s completed resources on the system?
Student records are kept indefinitely.

Is there a guide to assist me in using the system?
Yes, if you click on the student guide link, this will provide step-by-step prompts and screen shots to demonstrate all functionality that a student will need to effectively use the system and resources.

I have lost my password what do I do?
Go to your online system and under the login panel it says ‘(Forgot your password?)’. Click on this and then enter your ‘Login’ into the appropriate area. This will then send a new password to your email address. You can then change this password once you have logged in under ‘Edit Details’.

I have a question about my work or the system?
